Machete attack in NYC's Times Square leaves man seriously injured; police say 3 in custody

Three people are in custody after a machete attack in New York City's Times Square district left a man seriously injured Thursday afternoon, police said
The unidentified man was stabbed with the machete in both legs around 1 p.m. near 45th Street and Broadway, a New York Police Department (NYPD) spokesperson told USA TODAY. The man was taken by EMS to a hospital where he was in stable condition, according to the spokesperson.
No charges have been filed in the case as of Thursday afternoon, a New York Police Department spokesperson told USA TODAY.
A motive in the attack was not immediately known and the case remained under investigation Thursday afternoon, police said.

Everyone involved in the incident knew each other, PIX11 reported, citing authorities.
Investigators believe the incident involved people selling items to pedestrians in Times Square, according to multiple reports.
